What We Do
We invest in our projects to achieve design excellence through a seamless in-house process covering site development, landscape architecture, architecture, interiors, engineering, and general contracting.
Our comprehensive approach ensures a holistic, efficient, and purposeful outcome.
Our Approach is Defined By:
Site Specificity
Enhancing the existing environment to instill a sense of belonging.
Uniqueness
Each home stands as an exceptional, one-of-a-kind expression.
Innovation
Merging historical wisdom and innovative design solutions across multiple disciplines.
Efficiency
Prioritizing intentional design, optimizing each piece to create a holistic environment.
We uphold environmental responsibility including LEED Platinum certification, continually adapting and learning to lower our carbon footprint.
Our Focus
CONNECTION TO NATURE
Our process begins with a deep immersion into nature and community, shaping each project uniquely. We intentionally engage with the natural surroundings to elevate and sculpt practical outdoor spaces through the artistry of landscape architecture. Every intervention is site-specific, acknowledging the symbiotic relationship between architecture and the landscape. Through our bespoke method, these environments seamlessly blend functionality with contemplation.
THERMAL COMFORT
We use Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs) to provide continuous insulation and airtight construction. Combined with high-quality windows and doors this system creates a thermal envelope that allows you to easily maintain a comfortable temperature year-round. Our well-insulated homes cut carbon emissions and high energy bills by allowing more efficient heating and cooling systems to be deployed.
AIR QUALITY
Having fresh air in your home is vital to your health which is why we integrate an advanced mechanical ventilation system that serves as the ‘lungs’ to ensure your home 'breathes' fresh oxygen and releases the carbon dioxide produced inside. The system continuously extracts moist, stale air from kitchens and bathrooms while simultaneously supplying fresh, oxygen rich outdoor air to bedrooms and living areas. By carefully selecting low-emitting materials, energy-efficient appliances, guarding against natural gasses with radon mitigation, and eliminating indoor combustion; the home fosters a healthy environment where you can breathe easier, sleep better, and feel your best.
CLEAN ENERGY
Our homes are all-electric and supported by active and passive solar energy, greatly reducing or eliminating the need for fossil fuels. By integrating efficient components, precise and responsive appliances, tankless and/or heat pump water heaters and efficient HVAC systems, our homes require less total energy and eliminate natural gas, propane or oil bills. Our efficient design promotes carbon neutrality and energy independence. Less energy waste supports the outdoors leaving it pristine for all your outdoor adventures.
We recognize the connection between the built environment and human well-being.
Home Features and Systems
-
One of the most airtight and well-insulated building systems available, allowing for better control over indoor environmental conditions. Reduced energy consumption for heating and cooling throughout building life is SIPs' most substantial contribution to preserving the environment. A SIP home allows for better control over indoor air quality because the airtight building envelope limits unconditioned incoming air in favor of controlled ventilation that is pre-heated or cooled.
-
No combustion of natural gas, propane, or heating oil. This contributes to healthier indoor air quality, and maximizes the benefits of onsite and offsite renewable energy.
-
Supporting carbon neutrality and energy independence, and reducing operating costs over the long term. All electric + solar allow for net zero energy usage.
Battery storage acts as emergency backup in a power outage, and allows for the purchase of electricity during off-peak hours when the cost is lower.
-
Super-insulating windows with triple pane suspended-film technology for enhanced thermal efficiency and USA manufacturing, tuned properly for performance.
-
HRVs extract moist, stale air and supply fresh, filtered air while recovering up to 90% of extracted air's heat for heating incoming air (or cooling in summer). Controlled ventilation filters out contaminants and allergens, and also allows for incoming air to be dehumidified, reducing the possibility for mold growth. This ventilation system is especially beneficial in regions experiencing seasonal wildfire smoke as well as high precipitation and humid climates, or for those sensitive to allergens and pollutants.
-
Interior wall paint and Green Guard rated materials for improved air quality and no off gassing.
-
A vent and pipe system that extracts radon gas from beneath the house and vents it outside, reducing health risks in basements.
-
Mini-split system offering significantly less energy consumption than typical HVAC systems, providing humidity control and optimized air quality.
-
Precise, responsive, and energy-efficient electric appliances.
-
Long-lasting, energy-saving water heaters providing instant hot water.
-
Enhances indoor air quality by reducing exposure to nitrogen dioxide and carbon monoxide from fuel combustion. Quick and responsive for chefs and efficient in reducing energy consumption.
-
Energy-efficient heat pump dryer that doesn't require venting, thereby reducing the number of penetrations in the thermal envelope and reducing energy load on HVAC systems.
-
EPA-certified wood stoves are designed to burn wood more efficiently, producing higher heat output with lower emissions. They are low-smoke and ash-minimal and contribute to optimum thermal comfort.
-
Smokeless, chimney-less, and efficient gel fuel fireplace for heat and ambiance without combustion gas leaks.
